Why it works
Skill Link plus 185 Attack plus a 5-hit multi-hit move is the highest single-turn raw damage in the A tier. Pin Missile breaks every Substitute and Focus Sash in the format on the same turn it KOs the target. Rock Blast handles every fast Flying-type that would otherwise wall standard Heracross sets.
Common mistakes
- Bringing Mega Heracross without Tailwind. The 75 Speed is too slow to fire its damage tools without speed control.
- Predicting the wrong Multi-hit move. Pin Missile, Bullet Seed, and Rock Blast each handle different matchups. Using the wrong one wastes a turn against the wrong type.
- Forgetting that Substitute breaks on the first Pin Missile hit, then the next four still land. Players sometimes save Pin Missile for later turns when the first turn was the right play.
Tips
- Lead Mega Heracross behind Whimsicott Tailwind. The 75 Speed becomes 150 with Tailwind, fast enough to fire before most threats.
- Rock Blast plus Whimsicott Tailwind is the cleanest answer to opposing Mega Pinsir leads.
- Save Close Combat for matches where you need single-target damage on a Steel resist. Pin Missile is otherwise the default action.
