Mega Excadrill Pokémon Champions Guide
A TierSpread damage, tank-buster
Mega Excadrill is a Champions-exclusive Mega that turns the already-strong Excadrill into a 165 Attack tank-buster. Piercing Drill is a Champions-specific ability that ignores defensive abilities like Multiscale, Sturdy, and Solid Rock, which removes the format's main physical-attacker checks.

Adamant maxes Mega Excadrill's 165 Attack. Earthquake plus Rock Slide is the strongest spread combo for any Ground-type in the format. Iron Head handles Fairy-types and gives a flinch chance. Protect lets your partner act first.
Generate builds for Mega Excadrill →Why it works
Piercing Drill removes Multiscale Dragonite, Sturdy Mega Steelix, and Solid Rock targets from the equation. Earthquake from a 165 Attack stat is roll-the-dice OHKO territory on most A-tier Pokémon. The 110/100 physical bulk lets Mega Excadrill stay in the game longer than typical glass cannons.
Common mistakes
- Hitting your own teammate with Earthquake. Pair Mega Excadrill with a Levitate user, a Flying-type, or a Telepathy partner.
- Forgetting the 4x weakness to Fighting and Ground. Mega Hawlucha and opposing Earthquake users threaten OHKOs in mirror situations.
- Mega Evolving when Sand is not active. Sand teams are not required, but a Sand setter helps Excadrill chip the field while Earthquake lands.
Tips
- Pair Mega Excadrill with Tyranitar's Sand Stream. The chip plus Sand Force on the base form before Mega complement each other.
- Iron Head's flinch chance combined with Tailwind speed control creates one of the cleanest two-turn KO setups in the format.
- Save Protect for predicted Earthquake from your own partner. The mirror is the most common way Mega Excadrill loses tempo.
