Why it works
Mega Launcher applies to Water Pulse, Dark Pulse, Aura Sphere, and Dragon Pulse, all of which are commonly run on Mega Blastoise. The 1.5x boost on top of STAB on Water Pulse is functionally a 135 BP move at 100% accuracy. The 79/120/115 bulk profile lets Mega Blastoise tank hits that other special attackers cannot.
Common mistakes
- Running scald instead of Water Pulse. Scald is a strong move, but it does not get the Mega Launcher boost. The 1.5x multiplier is the entire reason to bring Mega Blastoise.
- Mega Evolving turn one against a Whimsicott. Encore plus Moonblast pressure shuts down setup turns.
- Forgetting Aura Sphere is your accuracy answer. In matches where Focus Blast would miss, Aura Sphere with Mega Launcher hits at 90 BP guaranteed.
Tips
- Pair Mega Blastoise with Pelipper Drizzle. Water Pulse under rain plus Mega Launcher plus STAB hits absurdly hard.
- Water Pulse has a 20% confusion chance. Stack it with Tailwind speed control for a high-pressure first turn.
- Save Aura Sphere for Tyranitar matchups. The Steel-type Mega Steelix and Sand Stream Tyranitar both get clipped by perfect-accuracy Aura Sphere damage.
